The NDIC completed a nationwide training programme for over 450 managers of community and microfinance banks, equipping them with risk management tools aligned with current prudential standards.
The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has concluded a nationwide training programme covering 450 managers and senior officers of community banks and primary mortgage institutions across all six geopolitical zones. The five-day residential programme focused on credit risk management, liquidity governance, and regulatory compliance.
The programme was developed in response to the persistently elevated non-performing loan ratios observed in the community banking segment, and the disproportionate share of bank failures attributable to credit concentration risk.
Curriculum Highlights

Participants worked through case studies drawn from real failed-bank scenarios in Nigeria, identifying the early warning signs that should have triggered internal escalation. The Corporation’s risk modelling team introduced a simplified risk dashboard tool that participating institutions can implement with minimal IT investment.
Certification and Follow-Up

All participants who completed the programme received a joint NDIC–CBN certification in risk management fundamentals. The Corporation has committed to providing quarterly refresher webinars for certified participants over the next 24 months.
