At the Annual Banking Summit in Lagos, the NDIC Managing Director outlined the Corporation's achievements and the strategic priorities for the next three years.
Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Bello Hassan, delivered a keynote address at the Annual Banking Sector Summit in Lagos, highlighting the Corporation’s role as a pillar of financial stability during a period of significant sector stress.
Addressing an audience of bank CEOs, regulators and financial analysts, he outlined the achievements of the past 18 months: the rapid resolution of Heritage Bank, the disbursement of ₦54.6 billion in insured deposits, and the strengthened early-warning framework established through the new MOU with the CBN.
Three-Year Strategic Priorities

The MD outlined three priorities for the period to 2027: first, digitalising the full claims process end-to-end; second, expanding coverage awareness to the estimated 45 million Nigerian adults outside the formal banking system; and third, completing a review of the ₦5 million insurance ceiling to account for inflationary erosion since the 2023 adjustment.
Market Response

Industry analysts present at the summit noted that the NDIC’s swift handling of the Heritage Bank situation had meaningfully shifted sentiment among institutional depositors. The summit closed with a resolution committing participating banks to enhanced co-operation with the NDIC’s on-site examination programme.
