Bridging the Gap: NDIC’s Plan to Restore Confidence in Heritage Bank

November 27, 2025

The NDIC outlines a comprehensive strategy to restore public confidence following the Heritage Bank closure, including enhanced communication, faster payouts and expanded digital claim channels.

Following the revocation of Heritage Bank’s operating licence, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has unveiled a comprehensive bridging plan designed to restore public confidence in the banking sector and accelerate the payment of insured deposits to affected customers.

The plan — presented at a press conference by the NDIC’s Director of Communication and Public Affairs — centres on three pillars: transparent and timely communication, expanded digital claim channels, and enhanced verification for complex accounts.

Expanding Digital Claims

The Corporation is rolling out an enhanced online portal that allows depositors to submit and track their claims without visiting a physical office. The portal will also notify depositors via SMS and email at each stage of the verification and payment process, reducing uncertainty and minimising the need for in-person enquiries.

Stakeholder Engagement

A series of town halls has been scheduled across the six geopolitical zones to address depositor concerns directly. NDIC officers will be present at each session to assist with documentation and answer questions about the liquidation process and timeline for recovery beyond the insured ceiling.

The Corporation has emphasised that all verified claims within the insured limit will be settled within 30 working days of verification, and has committed to publishing weekly progress updates on its official website.
