NDIC Reaffirms Commitment to Depositor Protection

November 27, 2025

The Corporation continues disbursement to verified depositors of Heritage Bank in liquidation, reaffirming its mandate to protect insured deposits across the banking sector.

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the protection of depositors, as the Corporation continues to process claims from the ongoing Heritage Bank liquidation exercise. In a statement issued by the Managing Director, the Corporation emphasised that depositor protection remains the central pillar of its statutory mandate.

The reaffirmation comes in the context of rising public questions about the timeline for processing uninsured claims — that is, balances exceeding the ₦5,000,000 coverage ceiling — which can only be settled from the proceeds of the bank’s liquidated assets.

Enhanced Communication Commitment

As part of its reaffirmation, the Corporation has committed to publishing fortnightly updates on the progress of Heritage Bank asset recovery and to making a dedicated helpline available 24 hours a day throughout the active liquidation period. All depositor communications will also be available in English and three additional Nigerian languages to improve accessibility.
